Parent Participation

As a member of the Camarillo Cosmos, your children will be participating in several track meets. We, the parents, must organize and staff our own home meets. We must also provide assistance for league-wide events, such as the championship finals. Parents make commitment to help when they register their child for the team, and will be expected to honor that commitment. Typically, parents will need to work no more than a half-day shift during each of our home meets. If you find that you cannot attend a meet at which you are scheduled to help, it is your responsibility to secure a replacement. Our coaching staff consists entirely of parent volunteers. If you are willing to help during practice for one or more afternoons a week, please contact any of our coaches. We need you! We will provide the necessary training. It is an experience you will find gratifying and our children will appreciate your assistance. Below is a more complete description of the various volunteer opportunities.

Parent Participation Positions

Coaching:
Age/Gender group coaches and assistant coaches are needed. Many of last year's coaches are expected to return. However, coaching help is always needed!  Assistant coaches are needed for all age groups. Being an assistant is easy, and a great way to help the Team. The number of athletes allowed in each age group is limited by the number of coach volunteers. The more coaches and assistants there are, the more athletes can be on the Team and the better their experience will be.

Specialty Coaches:
Specialty coach volunteers are needed for Hurdles, Shot Put, High Jump, and Long Jump. Prior experience is nice but a desire to help the children is the only pre-requisite, the rest can be learned. For safety reasons, volunteers are needed to supervise the training of these events. The task of specialty coach requires a significant time commitment, but less time than being an age group coach.

Team-Parents:
Team parents are needed for all age groups. Team-Parents are the essential link to keep parents informed and up to date. No experience needed, training will be provided.

Track Meet Parent Positions:
The Cosmos need parents for three home meets this year and the junior varsity and varsity finals track meets. Training will be provided for everyone. Go to the Conducting Track Meets link at the left for information about each track meet job. On-the-field training sessions can be provided during practice for any parent wanting experience.

Here is a partial list of the track meet jobs:
set-up crew, meet director, starter, photographer, announcer, staging coordinator, staging crew, recorder & awards coordinator, recorder & awards crew, head timer & assistant, timers, long jump coordinator, long jump crew, high jump coordinator, high jump crew, shot put coordinator, shot put crew, hurdles coordinator, hurdles crew, relay zone judging crew, gate tending crew, after-meet clean-up crew. Volunteers will also be needed to help set up and run the snack bar.
All of these tasks are simple, will keep you close to action on the track, and are a fun way to spend a Saturday. Remember parent participation is required as part of each family's commitment to the team.

Board Member:
The Cosmos board meets the third Thursday of the month, from 7 to 9 PM.
The location varies, but , should be posted on the web site.
Interested parents are invited & encouraged to attend the meetings.
